How to become an Airbnb Plus host

Every Airbnb host should aim to become an Airbnb Plus host. This means you are one of the top Airbnb hosts in your area, and you have a stellar reputation among the Airbnb community. When you achieve this status you could charge more for bookings and this also may help your chances of your Airbnb being fully booked. In this article, we will go over what becoming an Airbnb Plus host means, and how you can become one.

So first up, what is an Airbnb Plus host?

According to the Airbnb website, Airbnb Plus is a badge of honour reserved for only the highest quality homes and hosts with the best reviews. These homes are verified with an in-person inspection of your home and these hosts can be recognised with a plus badge.

So how do you become an Airbnb Plus host?

Architectural Digest says there are six boxes you must tick before you can even apply to have your property considered for Airbnb Plus. These boxes are:

  • Your space must be in a city where Airbnb Plus is currently available (which includes many places in New Zealand).
  • You must have a minimum of one stay already.
  • You must be in the bracket of “top reviewed,” which means you have an average rating of 4.8+ stars.
  • You have to accept 95% of bookings.
  • You have not had any last-minute cancellations in the past year.
  • You must offer guests an entire home or a private room with a private bathroom.

After this, you have to pass the design test. This involved a professional photographer checking out your property in accordance with having an elegant design, specialised touches to your space, clever furniture layout, and personalised artwork. Every small detail counts! You also have to make sure your house is unique and stands out from the crowd to impress Airbnb enough to be an Airbnb Plus host. Telling a story with your space is a great way to do this. But remember, as well as the design being beautiful, it must also be comfortable for guests and convenient for hosts to clean and maintain the space.

According to Airbnb, to be an Airbnb host, your home must be well-equipped with amenities for guests to live like they’re at home. These include:

  • Having fast Wi-Fi.
  • Television with streaming available.
  • Fully-stocked kitchens with cooking essentials including oil, utensils, and cutlery.
  • Filtered or bottled water.
  • An iron and hairdryer.

These homes must also be super clean, clutter-free, and function well from outside spaces to the bathrooms. You will need to make sure:

  • All of your appliances are working.
  • Bathrooms have strong water pressure.
  • You have locks on all bedroom/bathroom doors and shared spaces.
  • Neat and tidy spaces.
